Terms of sale

In short: the game is free. You may buy virtual gold or skins (ship appearances). They are digital content delivered instantly to your account, usable only in the game, with no real-money value, and non-refundable once delivered.

1. Products

The shop sells digital content without a physical medium: gold coins (virtual currency usable only in the game) and skins (cosmetic ship appearances with no effect on gameplay power). The exact content and price of each item are shown before purchase. Nothing is awarded at random.

A purchase grants a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence limited to the game and the player’s account. Gold and skins have no monetary value: they cannot be refunded in cash, exchanged, resold, transferred to another account or converted into real money.

2. Prices

Prices are in euros, all taxes included. VAT not applicable, art. 293 B of the French Tax Code.

3. Order and payment

The player must be logged in, tick the box accepting these terms and waiving the right of withdrawal, then pays on the secure checkout page of our provider Stripe. Card details are handled only by Stripe; we never see them. Stripe e-mails a receipt.

4. Delivery

Content is delivered immediately to the player’s account after payment, usually within seconds and at the latest at the next login. If a purchase does not appear within 24 hours, write to contact@merdescorsaires.com with your account e-mail and Stripe receipt.

5. Right of withdrawal

Under article L221-28 13° of the French Consumer Code (and the equivalent EU rule), the 14-day right of withdrawal does not apply to digital content supplied without a physical medium once delivery has begun with the consumer’s prior express consent and acknowledgement that the right is lost. By ticking the box before payment, the player requests immediate delivery and waives this right.

6. Minors

Minors must have their parents’ or guardian’s permission before buying. A parent who finds a purchase made without permission can contact us at contact@merdescorsaires.com; every request will be reviewed in good faith.

7. Legal guarantee

Digital content is covered by the legal guarantee of conformity (articles L224-25-12 et seq. of the French Consumer Code). If an item is not delivered or does not work as described, it will be fixed or, failing that, refunded.

8. Account and service

The game is an evolving online service. Purchased skins remain attached to the account while the game is online. Cheating, fraud or payment abuse (such as unjustified chargebacks) may lead to suspension of the account. If the game ever closes for good, players will be told at least 30 days in advance and the shop will close immediately.

9. Complaints, mediation and governing law

Complaints: contact@merdescorsaires.com (reply within 14 days). These terms are governed by French law, without prejudice to the mandatory protections of the consumer’s country of residence.

Game rules (terms of use)

In short: the game is free and open to everyone. Respect other captains, don’t cheat, and all will be well. If something goes wrong, report it and the moderation team will handle it.

1. Scope

These terms of use (“game rules”) apply to the game Mer des Corsaires, its chat, the forum and merdescorsaires.com. By creating an account or using the chat or forum, you accept them. Purchases are also governed by the terms of sale.

2. Account

The game is free. Keep your password secret; your account is personal and may not be sold, lent or traded. Under 15, a parent’s consent is required to create an account; minors also need a parent’s permission before buying.

3. Captain name

Your captain name is public. It must not be insulting, hateful, sexual, or impersonate the game team (“Admin”, “Mod”, “Dylan”…), another person or a brand. An automatic filter blocks the worst names; an inappropriate name that gets through may be changed or sanctioned.

4. Code of conduct

Chat and forum are shared spaces open to players of all ages. Forbidden: insults, harassment, threats; racist, hateful or discriminatory content; sexual, violent or shocking content; sharing other people’s personal information; spam, flooding and advertising; scams, password phishing and impersonation; any illegal content. PvP in the seas meant for it is part of the game and is not harassment, but deliberately targeting one player over and over to drive them away may be sanctioned.

5. Cheating

Forbidden: cheat software, bots or scripts, modifying the game or its traffic, deliberately exploiting bugs (please report them instead), using several accounts for an advantage, and selling or buying gold, items or accounts for real money outside the official shop. Gains obtained by cheating may be removed.

6. Moderation and sanctions

Moderation is carried out by the game team. Automatic tools filter common insults in the chat, refuse forbidden captain names and block impossible game values (anti-cheat), but every sanction against a player is decided by a person. Depending on severity and repetition: warning, removal of the message or topic, forced name change, removal of cheated gains, chat ban (10 minutes to 7 days, or permanent), account suspension or deletion. The most serious cases (threats, illegal content, organised cheating) may lead straight to account deletion. A player banned from the chat sees the duration and reason in the game; other sanctions are notified by e-mail. Sanctions give no right to a refund of purchases already used.

7. Reporting

To report a player, a message, a name or illegal content, e-mail contact@merdescorsaires.com (subject “Report”) or contact a moderator on Discord. Please include the captain name or topic link, date, time and sea, what the problem is (with a screenshot if possible) and, for illegal content, why you think it is illegal. Every report is reviewed promptly and objectively; you can be told what was decided. Abusive reports may be sanctioned. This address is also the single point of contact for authorities and users under the EU Digital Services Act (languages: French and English).

8. Appeals

If you believe a sanction is unjustified, e-mail contact@merdescorsaires.com from your account address within 6 months with your captain name and explanation. The decision will be reviewed and you will receive a reasoned answer.

9. Player content and service

You remain responsible for what you post and allow it to be displayed in the game, chat and forum while online. The game is made by a solo indie developer and evolves regularly; interruptions may happen and saves are not guaranteed against every loss. If the game ever closes, players will be told at least 30 days in advance. You can delete your account at any time by e-mailing us from your account address. These rules may change (the date is shown at the top) and are governed by French law, without prejudice to the mandatory protections of your country of residence.

Privacy policy

In short: we only collect what the game needs (your e-mail, nickname and save). No advertising, no data selling, no tracking cookies.

Processors: Supabase, Inc. (accounts, saves, chat), Infomaniak Network SA, Switzerland (website, game server), Stripe (payments). The game stores your login session, language and settings in your browser; this is strictly necessary and needs no consent.

Your rights: access, rectification, erasure, portability, objection and restriction, by writing to contact@merdescorsaires.com from your account e-mail (reply within one month). You may lodge a complaint with the French data protection authority, the CNIL (cnil.fr), or your local authority. Children under 15 need their parents’ consent to create an account.
